Ice Prince: Record Label wants The Album Out in June or July.
Left to Ice Prince, album would not be dropping anytime soon as taking from what he said in a Newspaper interview recently. He released his massive successful single ‘oleku’ last year and it rose to be an anthem like 9ice’s Gongo Aso and Da Grin’s pon pon pon. “The fact that I won Hennessy artistry does not mean I am ready. It is just a part of my journey. Also I can’t really do stuff the way I’d like to because we have a calendar at the record label so the album might be out in june or July and we have to get it right.” He said.
He also shares in the credit of the chorus to the hit song performed by Brymo: “I was writing a nice melody in my head too but there were no words so I called Brymo and we work it together”. Also, his would be ‘musical’ on the album and doesn’t particularly like being called a rapper, he said. ” I rap but don’t like being called a rapper, I write songs and know how to compose music”.
The rapper also confesses that he can’t tell the number of tracks that would be on the album as a board by the label would pick the best songs from the collection he would make available to them.
The ‘Oleku’ by Ice Prince Video Critique.
A couple of months ago, an upcoming rapper named Ice Prince made a surprising entry into main stream Nigerian music with a song entitled, ‘Oleku’. The hype surrounding the song was so massive that at the time of its reign he himself called it the ‘hottest song in Nigeria’. The track also featured another less famous character by the name Brymo, who laced the chorus with such dexterity and simplicity that most people felt that without him, it would have been just another ‘ordinary’ song. Then came the talk about a video for the song and that got fans even more hyped. Then the video came out and this was the output:
After watching the video a couple of times, it was hard to understand what the director was trying to achieve. It is very likely that they were working on a tight budget because this is less than is expected from the ‘House of Chocolate City’. So i am thinking they felt the song already gave them all the hype they needed and there was no need to go all out as far as the video was concerned. [But] Visuals help a lot; especially when you are trying to promote previously unknown personalities. I think Brymo’s acting was terrible by the way! Although that can be forgiven when you think about the fact that it was his first time in a ‘real video’. Although in the reality of things, first impression counts. Also, what’s with artist(s) thinking good videos must showcase their one thousand and one celebrity friends?
A shabby video can ruin a great song (remember prince and his Omoba video?) and a good video can hype a shabby song and even turn opinion about it. For example Cabo Snoop’s ‘Windek’.
[ Ice prince was having a shut eye (fast asleep as seen in the picture below) in a plane while the other Choc Boyz decided to make a joke on him by sticking a cigarette in his mouth. Can’t miss the excitement on M.I.’s face – Jesse Jagz is also an accomplice. You think it is funny?! Contrary to the information that Oleku video has been premiered, the video was leaked onto Youtube by a privileged individual and reliable sources have it that at the time of its release, the video director – Mex – was yet to deliver the edited and ready to view version to the artiste’s management. The video had received over 300 views within the first 24 hours of its release and a large number of comments (including likes and dislikes) with an obvious disapproval from many fans who recognized that the work was the unfinished effort of the team behind the project. The Chocolate City camp is currently working on taking legal actions over the perpetrators of the leak; you will recall that other Chocolate City acts have suffered similar pre-exposure of unfinished material. Recently, MI’s hit single “One Naira” featuring sultry singer Waje was leaked on an online website ahead of its official release in a bid to attract visitors to the site. Call it fate or popularity, these leaks are a disregard for the professional capabilities of the concerned artistes, and repeatedly the culprits behind such acts are not made to face the consequences of their actions. If piracy is to be stopped in Nigeria, then who leads the pack and who is responsible for the protection of artistes’ rights when materials which are in most cases unfinished products are already out for mass consummation even without prior notification of the necessary authority, in this case Chocolate City. Questionmarkmag.com can authoritatively tell the reason why the official video for Ice prince’s Oleku has not been released is due to the artiste / record label’s dissatisfaction with what director Mex delivered after the first shooting. Another quick shoot for additional scenes took place at Bode Lawson’s studio.. A video – that is rather disappointing, reading reviews by fans – for the hit single surfaced online (watch below) but Ice Prince -via twitter – informs it is still not the official video. ‘The real Oleku vid comes out next week. Thanks to those that like what they see so far tho and to those that criticised it, thanks to you to…’, Ice Prince said via Twitter. “Been doing a recording with Mtvbase allday and I jst got out to realise people are watching oleku vid. ……. Read my next tweet. Apparently there was a leak somewhere. That is the first cut my director submitted and me and my label were not exactly happy with it so he had to take it back to the lab.. And to that person that leaked the first cut without me and my label or my directors permission, God dey see you.”, He included.FUNNY PIC: ‘Sleep-Smoking’ Ice Prince is Center of A Joke!
