D’Crow Halt Medical Career In Dentistry For Music.

D'Crow.

Once a while, we hear the tales of an individual passing a comfortable career for the very uncertain pursuit of a career in music, all out of passion. We caught up with Adeda Martin popularly know was D’Crow and the dentist spoke about why he paused his career for the music and several other issues. Excerpt:

D’Crow is an interesting moniker, what prompted the choice of it for your stage name?
Well i was basically the guy that used to rap everywhere i was and my friends started making fun of me whenever i approached them saying…ooh here comes the “Crow” again meaning here comes the guy that is always making noise all over the place.

Can you imagine when followers hear your name, what they would think they usually associate you with?
Something bad i can imagine but i usually tell me that not all things appear as they seem and the same way my name is not what it would ordinarily seem to be, my music is the same, a lot of times you might need to open up your mind to get the true meaning of the things that i say even though there is usually a literal meaning that people who do not have the time to do so can just vibe with.

Where are you from?
I’m from Ughelli in Delta State which means i’m an Urhobo boy but i’m also proudly Nigerian

You are a graduate dentist, a dentist decides to do music.Tell me about that.
I guess the reality is i started doing music before i became a dentist, kinda discovered my musical ability before i got into university but my path had already been set for me in terms of becoming a dentist so i had to both the music and dentistry.

Do you practise as a dentist or it is just the music?
Well at the moment i’m not practising, just trying to finish what i started in terms of my music

Every artiste has got a story, Tell us your story?
If i tell you my story now, what would the people have left to look forward to in my music or even if i decide to write my autobiography (laughs)

“Sugar Mommy”

You also seem to be promoting the OJB and C-Mion collabo’s — How did these particular tracks even come to fruition?
Well as we all know, music has its own spirit and even after i released the singles initially, people liked it, but i guess that now they seem to really understand the message in the songs and in terms of how they came to fruition, i basically hooked up with OJB and while we were in the kitchen, we cooked up something for people to feed on and that is talking about the “Sugar Mummy” song and it was also the same with C_mion on the “Nairaman” joint

Tell me about your writing process and goals with your lyrical message, let the people know about the diversity of your subject matter.
Well part of my thought process when writing a song is that i take parts of what happens in my life and talk about them and basically find a way that it can relate to someone even if its just one person that listens to it and even if i’m just being creative about a subject matter that does not relate directly to me, i usually try to do some research so that when i talk about it, i will be making sense to the person that it affects

Lets talk about your debut album THE TRUTH, producers you worked with, guest appearances etc.
Well the album took a while to finally be deemed able to be released, actually started it while i was still with the Knighhouse crew and after we went our different ways, i put in work to finish it and i worked with OJB, K-Solo, Origin, Blazon, Rougewave (who was with us in knighthouse at the time), also had guest appearances from C-mion, Mo-Cheddah, Ill Rhymz, Rheymophoebus, Timi D Black One, etc and it was me just basically telling the truth about a variety of issues.

What’s your opinion about the current state of southern rap?
Well the thing i love most about hip hop is the way one is allowed to experiment with the way you can sound as long as the elements are in place, so my view on southern rap is the same i have on western or even Nigerian rap, as long as its done right, then i’m OK with it,

What’s next for D’Crow?
Well i’m currently finishing my mixtape titled UNCAGED

What else is on your mind as we close this out.
Thinking of how i can use this interview in a song (laughs), well just basically to tell everyone out there to get a copy of THE TRUTH album ’cause that’s basically what it is, the truth….and to also look out for my mixtape titled UNCAGED which should be coming out very very soon and they can follow me on FB to keep updated with all the things that are gonna be happening with me.. Cheers
