Africa’s performance at the Paralympic Games with 10 African countries on medals table, represents an improvement over their performance at the last outing in Beijing, China, in 2008, where only eight nations made the medals table.
The 10 African countries won 112 medals, made up of 38 gold, 36 silver and 38 bronze medals.
Nigeria, which placed third in Africa and 22nd on the overall medals table, dominated in powerlifting where we won 12 of our 13 medals – 6 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze. Iyiazi Eucheria picked Team Nigeria’s final medal, a bronze, in the Women’s Shot Put.
Team Nigeria athletes also set four world records through Yakubu Adesokan, Esther Oyema, Joy Onaolapo and Folashade Oluwafemiayo.
Well done Team Nigeria!
