Former inspector general of Police, Sunday Ehindero, who is being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for allegedly embezzling N16m meant for the police has been remanded in prison custody until he is able to meet bail conditions.
The former IGP failed to provide the N10m as required and surety with same amount set by Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi of the Abuja High Court on Friday thus he will remanded in Kuje Prison until these conditions are met.
According to reports, the N16m he allegedly embezzled was the interest that accrued to N567m donated to the police, for equipment, by the Bayelsa State Government.
The State government made the donation when President Goodluck Jonathan was the governor of the South-south state.
The ICPC maintained that the money was embezzled by Ehindero and a suspended commissioner of police in charge of Budget at the Force Headquarters, John Obaniyi.
Both men are facing a six-count charge at the court.
With his failure to meet the bail condition, Ehindero will have to spend the weekend with inmates at the Kuje Prison which is (in)famous for hosting high profile prisoners.
