Church bomb kills several worshippers in Bauchi

There have been reports of a bomb explosion in Bauchi State at St. John’s Catholic Cathedral, directly across from the Bauchi Township stadium early this morning. The explosion killed several christian worshipers at the cathedral.

The explosion reportedly occurred a few minutes after 9am this morning during Sunday church service on Murtala Mohammed way in the Bayan Gari area of the township.

Military men have moved to the area and the area has been cordoned off to unauthorized personnel. Several dead and injured people are being evacuated and placed along the streets around the scene of the attack.

We can not ascertain the exact number of casualties involved in the bomb explosion but unconfirmed sources told reporters that about 50 people died in the bombing.

There have been several attacks by men suspected to be affiliated to the Islamic militant sect, Boko Haram, but no group has taken responsibility yet for this attack
