ARIK AIR SUSPENDS DOMESTIC OPERATIONS, AS REPORTS OF FEUD WITH FAAN AND AVIATION MINISTER EMERGES

Arik Air, Nigeria’s biggest airline, Thursday morning suspended all flight operations throughout the country.

Although details are still sketchy, the airline is believed to have taken the action because of some differences between it and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Information on the airlines official website read:

Due to an action by the FAAN Union at the General Aviation Terminal in Lagos, we are sorry to advise our passengers that all domestic flights by Arik Air are cancelled for today Thursday 20 September. This information will be updated once we hear of any change. Passengers who have tickets to travel today will be re-booked on available flights once operations resume.

This coming from Arik Air just a few weeks after Air Nigeria suspended all operations till further notice is clearly sending out some bad vibes. There are Unconfirmed Reports about the Honorable Minister of Aviation wanting 5% of shares in the Airline, a move said to have been rejected by the Chairman/owner of the Airline. Further to this are reports that the Minister supposedly forced Dana Air to allocate to her shares in the company, so that the suspension placed on the airline in the aftermath of the terrible air-crash of June 2012 could be lifted. We’ll see how this unfolds…
