We at Questionmark Entertainment have come to see the need to address the recent report of one of our artistes allegedly terminating her contract with the label ‘agreeably over conflict about her brand and style of music’.
Jennifer ‘Ego Omalicha’ Oduah still has a contract with Questionmark Entertainment.
This is simply impossible as either the label CEO has not been in town for weeks now following assignment in South Africa and the label’s lawyer has not had a meeting with even the artiste on any of the issues that relate to terminating Ego’s contract with the record label or her desire for a name change.
Her contract with the label which was signed in 2010 is still valid. S?o far, the label has footed bills for material we deem commercially viable and marketable. Like every label in the world, we give creative direction and advise but leave the artiste to implementing, She has indeed put out material without our backing after her decision to change her sound which we don’t approve.
As regard her name change, it was also not discussed with the label. Label settled to have her stage name as ‘Ego’ as it matched the sound/music which got her signed to the label as heard and seen in the video for ‘omalicha’ which eventually was added to her name ‘Ego’ nd she never discussed the desire to change her name which might have been considered.
We also find the need to restate that this has no similarity to what is been erroneously reported with the former roster of artistes on the label – we hope someday we would be able to correct the misconception from that situation understanding that not every business relationship would turn out as planned even some of the other record labels have had their fair share of split from talents they were displeased with their plan and approach.
Tens of Million of naira have been spent since signing Ego Omalicha, Harrysong and d’Supremes in promotion and over eight video production with another video for ‘taiye, kehinde’ by Harrysong to be released soon.
