Mother of South Africa Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has launched a scathing attack on the producers of the Hollywood biopic based on her life, according to The New Age.
The struggle legend told CNN correspondent Nadia Bilchik that she was not consulted at all when the film was made, and was quite disappointed with it. She was at pains to ensure that Nadia understood that she had “nothing against Jennifer [Hudson]”, but she “[had] everything against the movie itself”.
She said that it was disrespectful for the producers to base the film on her life and then not consult her on it as she was “still alive”. She also said “[making] a movie about [her] struggle and [calling] that movie some translation of a romantic life of Winnie Mandela” was “an insult”.
The film is in post-production and Hollywood star Jennifer Hudson plays the role of the political icon. But Winnie is not pleased that the producers, writers and actors of the film neglected to discover from her how she really felt and take that knowledge into their film.
