Solifik

From making the ‘joo oh’ slang common in the underground music circuit and amongst industry peers since 2008 before it was made a hit record by another colleague to employing premium production services from Nigeria’s finest producers DJ Zeez and Samklef, SOLIFIK is not new at causing a blip on the radar..

Solifik scores as a trend setter. A music graduate, songwriter and multigenre recording artiste with a diverse base of inspiration. Solifik, born Adejare Jesus-Jnr Olajide in Osogbo, Osun State Nigeria, made his first dive into music in 1996 where he performed a tribute to late international rapper, Tupac in school at Obafemi Awolowo University. After he graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, The multi talented artiste took the bull by the horn and professionally started music. After graduating from school, he moved to Lagos to pursue a career in music. He grew up listening to a varied genre of music from fuji, juju to hiphop which is evident in his sound.

His first recording was titled ‘do ti do (the ABC of music)’ produced by budding producer Nelly P, he followed with another acclaim record ‘Joo oh’. ‘Joo oh’ took him to critical acclaim among his peers, making ‘Joo oh’
a common slang amongst like peers. He shared stages with artistes from DJ Zeez, Lord of Ajasa, Dagrin, amonst others… ‘Joo oh’ compared the impossible – like it was heard on Jahbless’ version of the record.
Solifik was regarded as the ‘Joo oh’ master, a slang he picked up while he was in school at Obafemi Awolowo University and he was the first Lagos artiste to record a track with the ‘Joo oh’ theme – he could
claim to have made the slang popular on the underground music scene in Lagos months before Jahbless made a hit single off it.

Solifik’s Joo oh featured fuji artiste T Code and it was produced by DJ Zeez in December 2008. The same year, he did a remix of the hit song ‘alhaji’ and it was titled ‘Alhaja’.

Solifik – signed under Raindrop Entertainment has a new single titled ‘yes boss’ featuring Coded Tunes frontline rapper, Olamide. ‘Yes Boss’ is Produced by Sam klef. ‘Yes boss’ is dance tempo track talking about
a lady feeling his persona.

DEAR LYRICIST BY Illbliss

Posted on 27 April 2011 by QMarkMag

Illbliss

Illbliss is an award winning rap artiste, artiste manager and a part of the hiphop group – Thorobreds recognized by American rap star Jay Z during his visit to Lagos.

Amazing how the illest lyricists never get mainstream acceptance and massive sales. This is officially my real hiphop listening time out (been on since Friday last week) and I have been going through my library and its scary the kinda material only few ever get to hear and appreciate. From Elzhi to Slum Village, Royce The 59, Slaughterhouse, Masta Ace, EMC, Guilty Simpson, Random Axe, Nicolay, Little Brother, Rakim, Rass Kass, Skyzoo, Sean Price, KRS One, DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, Blaqpoet, The Roots, J Dilla (R.I.P) Smif n Wessun, RhymeFest..the list Goes on.

The music may not do Wiz Khalifa or Waka Flocka Flame numbers BUT certainly much more thought provoking, innovative, energetic, fulfilling and THIS is just the rap genre..Lets Not talk soul ’cause that’s a whole different story. If you are a fledging and upcoming lyricist, i advise you study the crates, the past and the history so you stay better conditioned for the future. Have a Blessed week and kindly reserve your comments if you don’t quite understand what i just wrote…

MTV’s very first digital awards show, the O Music Awards would take place on April 28th and Chiddy bang hiphop duo would be participating. Chidera Anamege of the Philly-based hip-hop group Chiddy Bang will attempt to score the Guinness World Records title for “Longest Freestyle Rap” as part of the awards kick-off.

The current record is for nine hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds and is held by a rapper named M-Eighty out of Indianapolis.

Xaphoon Jones, the group’s other member and producer, will provide the beats for his partner to rhyme to. “We’re just gonna basically have, like, two hours worth of instrumentals that my boy Xaph made,” said Chiddy, who will then put that custom-made playlist on a continuous loop.

Best of all? He will be taking your topics and words from Twitter to use throughout his freestyle–all you have to do is tweet using the hashtag #RapWorldRecord! Send your words in, and watch as he flows.

To achieve this, Chidera says: “I just gotta get a good night’s rest, eat a healthy breakfast,”

PSA: The Children’s Fiesta 2011 – Taking Tomorrow Today

Posted on 22 April 2011 by QMarkMag

...

The ‘Children’s Fiesta’ by Fico solution Ltd, (the company behind the Queen of Africa project.) is a child empowerment program designed to celebrate the African child’s positive attributes through fun filled and enlightening activities.

This year’s edition will be held in a prestigious venue in Victoria Island. The inaugural event is themed ‘’Taking Tomorrow Today’’ and is specifically designed to inspire kids as well as enhance their career development skills for future.

There would be an inaugural children’s day celebration on Saturday, May 28, 2011.

To the vast majority of people, toys are mere play item or pacifier for children a lot of thought does not really go into which toys best serve the purpose as a great tool towards a child’s development. A lot of is dumped in the mind of children subliminally both positive and negative which can be later detected in their character at a much later stage (especially in their teenage years). We need to see toys for what they really are…..A fun developmental tool.

Generations over the years having been passing on to kids toys in different shapes and sizes not fully realizing the psychological impact it has on them. In this age and time our thoughts, decisions and actions are influenced externally especially in young children.

There is a need for role models they can easily identify with in their likeness that can sharpen their moral values and bring them closer to their culture. Hence, Queens of Africa project; a social-cultural and educative innovation, with positive life changing initiative, set up to empower, promote and support Nigerian/African girl child.

The main aim of Queens Of Africa is present to the African/Nigerian girl child household dolls with African concept and origin with the view to position it as the world’s number one symbol of pride and entertainment. In addition, empower by adding value to the African/Nigeria child especially the girl child to be confident and ethically matured to become the ideal and perfect role model.

And what better way do we have than to usher in this project with the forthcoming children’s day! A day where we take time off our busy schedules to have fun with our kids and pay them the true attention they need. So ‘Children’s Day Fiesta 2011’ has been put together with a double goal of creating a platform for introducing ‘Queens of Africa’ as well as mark an event in grand style.

The event will see parents and their children participate in fun-filled activities and win ‘Queens of Africa ‘dolls. A onetime event, this will inspire and more so set the ball rolling for a clearer perception of African Dolls and similar art.

Developed by entrepreneur and philanthropist Toafick Okoya, the program has reached tens of thousands of children across Africa contributing significantly to education programs, particularly in Nigeria. The website www.queensofafrica.com has lots of information about the Queens and the wider work the program is involved in.
