Dynamix All Youth Awards’ first edition took place five years ago converging thousands of youth at a venue and celebrating the brightest of them.
Later on, Telecoms company – Etisalat came on board as title sponsor and the event became the foremost youth celebrating ceremony. Just as the going got good for the organizers, widely reported act of soliciting for funds for wins by several nominees emerged,l questioning the awards’ credibility.
This year’s edition took place without the support of a sponsor besides red bull who had their rep hand out free cans of the energy drink. “We know Etisalat back out largely because of the allegations of incredibility”, a source close to the organizers informed.
The lack of sponsors this year was evident as the new Expo Hall was demarcated and assumably knowing the number of expected guest wouldn’t be compared to previous editions, organizers made use of half of the New Expo Hall.
In true Nigerian tradition, the red carpet proceedings started late as the event didn’t kick off till after 10 PM and press representative could be counted.
Unlike previous award ceremonies that took place at the Eko Hotels and Suites: Soundcity Music Video awards, MTV Africa Music Awards and Nigeria Music Video Awards, where sizeable traffic was experienced at the gate of Eko Hotel and Suites, It was not the same for Dynamix Awards. At 11PM, the entry to Eko Hotels was deserted.
The award ceremony also suffered several criticisms from Attendees and Twitter users alike.
“Do you know he nominated his girlfriend in Caleb (university) at the last edition of the awards”, a Tweet read as the 2010 edition of the award ceremony that took place yesterday, 21 December was on going.
“I just don’t get it, I’m a nominee and getting entry into the award ceremony is becoming a situation”, a nominee for the Best DJ category informed.
Taking to Twitter, attendee rap artiste 2 Shotz said : “DYNAMIX awards was a collection of yahoo boys n their ashewo (prostituting) babes from different zones coming 2geda to celebrate dia (their) stupidity”
Just before he said: “Back home…thinkin.. hmmm!! DYNAMIX awards was a complete joke n waste of my fuckin time.”

Airtel ambassador, 2face (notice he has been proudly spotting red-colored attire recently) threw a party for his 2 year old daughter with Annie Macaulay. The event took place at Posh Cafe and was well attended – celebrities and family members from P Square, Sound Sultan who was accompanied by his wife, 2face’s mom and brother Hyacinth. The event took place on December 12th, a week after Hyacinth got married. His wife is Sierra Leonean. Tuface is reported to have bankrolled the wedding that took place at the bride’s hometown in Sierra Leone to an extent.
Hyacinth met his wife in the US, where he has been pursuing his studies, he intends to move back and live with his wife in Nigeria.
Actress Dakore Egbuson and OLumide Akande would be walking the aisle soon. Excited Dakore recently revealed how Olumide who she informs is a fashion buff proposed to her. He had taken her to shop a day before on the pretext that a friend was throwing a party for Essence magazine.
‘I noticed he was excited’, she said and then teased him. On the day of the party, he suggested they should go eat at a restaurant before going to the party – this was in Chicago, US. The restaurant was ‘the finest we’ve ever been’, she confessed. She should have guessed his intentions but she assumed he was just been his ‘sweet self’. Olumide had informed the restaurant of his intention and they assisted in making the event extra special.
Just after their meal and she ordered for desert, a waiter came with a trolley which she was on the verge of informing they ordered for just desert but the waiter opened the cover of the trolley and a red box was revealed – then it dawned on her as Olumide got on his kneels. She shed a tear and couldn’t wait to say ‘yes’. Just afterwards, congratulatory remarks poured in from every guest present at the restaurant, in true American style.
She recalls they had talked about rings and she had particularly picked what he got her as her favourite then moved on to the party for Essence Magazine which turned out to be a surprise party for her.
The big screens might also loose a good actress as she informedGenevieve Magazinethat she might not be acting as she would want to be family-oriented like her mom and acting might not permit that. She intends to stay in the creative business though.
Looking at the images above you can’t help but say, Yes! Early this summer African Photographer Mario Epanya petitioned vigorously to get Vogue Africa on Condenast, Vogue’s parent company, but his petition was rejected. Vogue does not think Africa is ready or maybe Vogue is not ready? The rejection led to immense outrage all over the web, was it a major fail on Vogue’s part? It would be tough to create a magazine that deals with 53 independent countries and truly capture the diverse styles and culture in Africa.
The most shocking comment that I came across on the web over Vogue Africa’s rejection, I found on Tanzanian Stylist Fashion Junkii’s blog:
‘Are you kidding me? In a continent ripped with poverty, starvation, rape, abuse and a multitude of issues that we can not fathom, we’re actually rooting for a fashion magazine as a symbol of triumph over these issues? There are much more critical things to achieve than touting some fashion magazine.’
Naturally, I am appalled by this comment because America, perhaps not equally, is a continent that deals with poverty, starvation, rape, abuse and a multitude of issues, same with India but there is a Vogue India! Most importantly, fashion magazines do not contain only fashion news but also feature stories on different issues across the world. A Vogue Africa would not only finally dispel the negative attitude and perception of Africa as just desperately helpless continent but it would also bring to light the real issues that Africa faces today.
Nevertheless the question still remains, is Africa not fashionable enough? My opinion is simply that the direction and the message behind African fashion is not clear. There is no trend guidance or forecast, there is not enough African and sometimes there is too much. There needs to be a point in African fashion where cultural style meets with contemporary. It can be done and it is done in India, just check out Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra.

The love affair between actor Femi Adebayo and Funke Akindele is said to have crashed. Remember Femi allegedly sent his wife, Khadijat out to keep the affair between himself and Funke Akindele – Khadijat then moved to live with her parents. The speculations were collaborated by the absence of the actress Funke at Femi Adebayo’s elder brother, Saheed.
The ‘lovebirds’ have been unable to resolve their differences as Femi Adebayo has been accused by Funke as been dependent on her financially and restricting her from seeing colleagues and friends while Femi has accused Funke of infidelity.
He has been keeping a tab – close to an obsession on the actress, a situation that worked with Khadijat who is reportedly her first love. Funke had got a few reasons to be jealous as Femi is allegedly in the habit of flirting with other females.
Sources close to him say very close friends and allies to the actor Femi have been mounting pressure on him to reconcile with his wife, Khadijat and he is said to be giving a serious thought.
Hoe-dom reigns supreme and a few celebs have chosen to join the ranks. It is prolly they felt their cultured actions weren’t getting them enough attention and wanted more or maybe they were just ‘hoes’ from the start and tired of pretending:
We will never know but this celebrities made interesting news headlines during the year – they wear whatever they like, say whatever their mouth can mutter and score the highest at their provocative level!
Mercy Johnson
Very humble beginnings and she rose to become the most talked about actress, provocative dress sense? check. voluptuous? check. Linked to a handful of millionaires? check – a record she shares with Genevieve Nnaji. Plan was she would get marry early this year but as at today, our sources say she is very single.

Tonto Dikeh
To(n)to dick – eh!. Disclaimer alert! this is not how we feel about her. She wasn’t ever necessarily wholesome, but she sure wasn’t the little honeypot she is today. Tonto used to be just a good actress from Next Movie star fame. Now, she’s an enhanced, absolutely daring club hopper and on-screen seductress. We’d say that’s a dramatic change.

Rukky Sanda
Rukayat Akinsanya allegedly told colleagues that she dated Akon, yea right! allegedly just to cause some sort of ripple that would create a multi-buzz for her non-existent acting career. The tall actress rides a 2010 toyota that her career couldn’t have possibly afford then had an pretty short affair with Dbanj, tried hard to make us believe D’banj was just like a brother.

Anita Joseph
She made headlines from fighting with fellow actress Ebube Nwagbo to having marathon sex with Kelly Hansome. Also, she claims that her ‘bottom’ is her biggest asset. Provocative!
She says her mind, wear anything she likes (careless whether or not she is showing too much flesh) and parties almost too hard.

Oge Okoye
The only married woman and mother of two who we know that clubs really hard – sorry we don’t party alot. Just before she married her Holland based hubby, reports emerged that he was involved another lady in Amsterdam, got her pregnant and abandon her for Oge.

Provocative level: just about 3.5
Funke Akindele
Funke was a beloved comical actress with magical aura. She could do no wrong so we assumed and she still denies, unless she snatched up a certain Femi from his wife. You can ignore it if you want, but we know about her home-wrecking ways.
She’s not necessarily a hoe but Femi threw his wife out! She says they were not an item.

Afrocandy
American Rappers get shot or Nigerians start beef to get attention for an album. Afrocandy just gets wet and naked when nobody is interested in buying her music. Doesn’t it work? Hell yeah! she made our list and you’ve tweeted at her this year or read a tweet talking about her or ‘ikebe na money’ Right?

Kelly Hansome
You didn’t think this was just about the ladies, did you? Kelly Hansome was Mr. MAGA – the man that appraise internet scam with ‘Maga don pay’ but we still loved him. Only to switch on us as a desperado, He tells M.I. they are cool then forwarded a track to every blog dissing M.I.., and raising points about D’banj dis qualified to call himself an Igwe. Does bitching get worse than that.

This year has been a year full of massive smash hits with no breathing space for one another as hit songs get released almost every week. Picking hit tracks might be a lil difficult ‘cause of differing tastes of people, our hiphop pundits and entertainment buffs had decided to touch every genres and kind of hiphop music; street hits, club bangers, rap, R n B, pop and so on. Making an authoritative list is almost if not impossible combined to the situation that some songs rocked the first quarter of the year (we shouldn’t forget them) while some just became hit at the end of the year ( we shouldn’t get carried away by that). This year has recorded many new artistes with innovative and new kind of songs we’ve never heard before (we coming out with the top 10 newest voice of the year) who spiced up this year.
Only me – 2face
Produced by J Sleek
Who ever thought he could beat implication? With the conclusion that Implication was a result of a streak of luck, Tuface restated why he is a legend. This might just be the song that got him to legendary status. This way proverbial song that depict 2face as a man talking from experience or rather the wise one is a classic. Lyrically tight, and not like the normal 2face freestyled songs. Spiced up with a nice yoruba chorus which 2face claimed was written for him by kojo (his neighbour). Clarence peters further made more meaning out of the song with a great concept filled music video that has earned numerous awards.
Gbamu gbamu – 9ice
Produced by Id Cabassa
Even though the album wasn’t as effortless as ‘gongo aso’ album, it still managed to produce hit track that lasted for long. At first, this song wasn’t accepted by critics and listeners, but later came back to become a hit. Its chorus ‘gbamu gbamu…’ Became a hit.
Kondo – Dagrin
Produced by Sossick
Another nice dance from a rapper after Ruggedman’s baraje and MI’s anoti with every hint of the street Yoruba lingual. This reminds why Da Grin was prominent A banging beat that you can’t just help but dance to. Its catchy Chorus made it a sing along.
Goldie ft. Eldee – You know it
Produced by eLDee the don
After several trials it appeared she did hit the bull’s eye with this track and she rose to be the Golden girl of Nigerian pop. There’s a SMVA, NMVA plaque to prove this. It has been a while (if never) that a pop female singer had it this good all year. Producer eLdee the don also reminded fans that he discover the first set of female singer during the Trybesmen day (giving Weird MC her due respect of course)
Fimile – Kas
A nice grime sang in yoruba with a british accent. Interesting, through out the year, the catchphrase was everywhere ‘fimile’. And Kas surprisingly paired two Naija’s best (D’banj and 2face) together in its remix, which almost sounded horrible and almost hurted the original song but we still heart the original song though
E no easy – P Square
Produced by J martins
This duo are known for blessing the industry with dance track every year, and they didn’t fail us this year. This song rocked everywhere, from house party to club party, even the street. A song that truely make a broke man dance with joy, its irresistible ‘even If you no get money, dey jolly dey shake body’.
Mr Endowed – D’banj
Produced by Don Jazzy
One thing sets this song apart from normal Naija songs; the foreign pop sounds added to it. Don jazzy synthesized vocal saved this song. Why it made it made the list was bcos its the future sound, and we respected Don jazzy’s brilliance.
Ten over ten – Naeto C
Produced by TY Mix
A big does of instrumental intricacy by TY Mix to create highlife brilliance on 10/10. Naeto c is sounding more serious with a straight face on this. Not only setting the pace with msc, but also with a groundbreaking hit that centers on his Msc upgrade(which he believes sets him apart from others). Blending highlife with hiphop results into an irresistible package. The song equally captured Naeto C as entertainer and a new learned person.
We are Africans – JJC
Produced by JJC
This song crawled its way to the top. Its aggressive chorus made the song sounded more like an anthem for all africans. It earned JJC a mobo nomination. The remix which featured major Naija artistes reworked the song back to the chart. One of the best collaboration this year.
Under G – Sauce Kid
Produced by Don Jazzy
Amidst the heavy criticism and drama that followed the release of ‘african american’ album, the still managed to produce a top club banger of 2010. With a nice fuji chorus that gave it an area boy touch, don jazzy was at it again. Don jazzy prove to us that he can extend well beyond the mohits boundaries.
D’Prince – Omoba
Produced by Don Jazzy
No doubt, He was the Mo Hits artiste that rocked this year, last year it was Wande Coal. We picked the best of the trilogy hit songs; Ooze, Omoba, Jonzing. He proved he can now stand as an artiste.
Wizkid – Holla at your boy
Produced by Knighthouse
Beyond every negative press that later emerged, Wizkid emerged as the hardest working teen. The record grew to its limit, after the proper showcase on M.I.’s fast money fast cars track off his debut . He became a favourite with the ladies.
Ice Prince ft. Brymo – Oleku
Produced by Jesse Jagz
Probably the biggest single released this year. The most anticipated single for Choc city raven, Ice Prince served more than taking the rapper from every shadow and established an individual artiste persona. ‘Oleku’ served as the proper avenue to announce the signing of Brymo to Choc city. A club and definite street anthem.
Dr. SID ft. Kayswitch – Over the moon.
Produced by Don Jazzy
The song that laid every skepticism to rest about Dr. Sid’s ability. He did quit rapping but He emerged ultimately as a pop musician and this probably had the best use of autotone. Even at the release of collaborations like Pop Champagne with D’banj and the rest of his album Turning Point, ‘Over the moon’ popped out as a favourite with fans.
Jah bless ft. Reminisce – Jor oh.
Produced by Sarz
Jahbless’ second hit single, the original featuring Reminisce. One of the most innovative singles that dropped this year and as expectedly the intellect and use of street lingual rode the song to hit status. A remix followed parading . Ruggedman, Ice prince, eLDee and Durella
Wande Coal ft R2Bees – Kiss your hands remix.
Produced by Jusa.
The song did rock. The Ghanaian trio stormed Lagos and broke a Mo Hits’ code – Wande Coal rocked on a beat that was produced millions of miles away from Don Jazzy’s studio. A party mix wasn’t complete with this record.
Asa – Be my man.
Produced by Benjamin Constant.
As noticed, more than half of songs that rocked 2010 had potentials to move a club full of alcohol drinking crowd. Asa broke the mold, following up her debut masterpiece with a single with lines off the hook that remained in every listeners’ subconscious, often mis-connoted as ‘you remind me’. Asa’s latest effort reveals an ambassador bent on global appeal.
Terry G – Sangalo.
Produced by Terry G
Terry G was bound to contribute to a hit song this year and he would likely do the same next year. Terry G has the ginger to your swagger or in his own words – he ‘gingered your swagger’ at every party with his furiously high tempo tune. Monstrously huge, the record got a part 2.
d’Supremes ft. Harrysong – Party.
d’Supremes emerged this year a duo to contend with. ‘Party’ is agreed to be one hell of a tune. Lil Tee, The rapper of the duo opening the track and keeping listeners interested just for Steen prof, the singer to floss and Harrysong (this is Harry O!) to deliver the blow for crescendo.
Essence Ft. Jaywon – Facebook Love
Kennis Music
Essence is got every right to feel a diva. Longest running and consistent female singer. Beyond the fact that the song brought the desire to have a Facebook account an inch closer to Nigerians, The song featuring Jaywon was every inch a success. All Hail the diva!
