Christmas Eve Bomb Blast Nightmare!

Jos, the Plateau State capital, was thrown into confusion on Christmas Eve following three bomb explosions in some parts of the state capital.

As of the time of going to press last night, scores of people were reported dead and many sustained various degrees of injuries.

While people were returning from Christmas shopping at about 7:30 p.m., there was an explosion at Kada-Biu area of Jos North Local Government Area of the state close to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

It was learnt that the explosion, which occurred close to a church in the area, destroyed some residential buildings within the vicinity while people living in the area and motorists scampered for safety when they heard the sound of the explosion.

A source close to the scene of the blast informs that many people were injured, adding that the blasts occurred in three different parts of the area simultaneously.

While securitymen were trying to ensure the safety of the people of Kada-Biu, it was learnt that there was another explosion at Angwan Rukuba in the same Jos North Local Government area of the state.

It was learnt that several people sustained injuries in this explosion while people of the area also fled the area for fear of further explosion.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulrahman Akano, who confirmed the incident said from the reports gathered, seven people were injured and now recuperating at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).

He further stated that combined team of Special Task Force and the police are already in the affected areas to maintain law and order.

The state Commissioner of Information, Mr. Greg Nyelong, said the explosions confirmed the early rumour of plan to disrupt Christmas celebration in the state, adding the the state government would get to the root of the matter.

According to him, the government condemned the blasts in strong term, adding that the target of the arson was the newly constructed overhead bridge and the satellite market at Kada-BIU.

As of the time of filing this report, nobody or group has claimed responsibility for the bomb blasts.
