Recovery: The Late Review

Posted on 14 August 2010 by Abdulnasir

Recovery

I’m assuming everyone has heard the album by now, so here we go:

There are many faults with Eminem’s Recovery, but let’s start with the good. 1.) It’s Eminem, 2.) It’s Eminem, 3.) Did I mention it’s Eminem? The first words you practically hear when you put on the CD (for those of you who actually purchased a CD, ahem, suckers) are, “Just call me the ball-sacks/ I’m nuts/ Michael Vick in this bitch/ Dawg/”. Glad to see somethings haven’t changed, but a lot has changed in Eminem’s life and it plays out on Recovery. I could go on and on about what and what I like, but that could take time. Instead let me tell you what I don’t like.

Eminem – Love The Way You Lie ft. Rihanna

First of all, where the fuck was Dre and I don’t mean on the production? I mean where was he to supervise and prevent the B.S that Marshall carried out by wanting to sing on practically half the hooks? I couldn’t quite understand the collabo with Pink (I liked the song don’t get me wrong… somewhat) and felt she should’ve sung the hook on the song with Rihanna and in turn Rhianna sang on “Won’t back down”. Why give Rihanna the better song? Pink’s a much better singer. Again with Em singing, don’t get me wrong, he sings as great as the rest of us who wouldn’t audition on any Idol or Project Fame show. So why ruin what was an otherwise great tribute to his deceased friend Proof by singing the hook. I know singing is overrated and all (sorry aspiring singers). Don’t believe me, ask Bob Dylan, Kid Rock or Jack White who’ve all had hits and they ain’t exactly Luther Vandross, but damn homie, Eminem could’ve just not sang… at all
(“Not Afraid”, I can forgive, not so much the other songs). I guess we should however be grateful, he didn’t jump on the auto-tune bandwagon, which Jay-Z did not kill mind you; the Internet did with its middle-aged bloggers, before Shawn Carter got credited for it.

Key Tracks: No Love ft. Lil’ Wayne, Here We Go (the hidden bonus track, probably the best track if you ask me), Cinderella Man, Talking To Myself ft. Kobe (no, not the baller, please!) & 25 to life.

P.S Lets’ settle the Relapse Vs. Recovery debate once and for all. Lyrically Relapse was superior, but the topics got boring, especially when we’d heard them all before. Musically (and when it comes to being all-rounded), Recovery wins in every way. There, I said it and take it from an Eminem stan, who enjoyed both albums.
