Posted on 29 July 2010 by Shola Syno

Kigali — AWARD winning American songstress and actress Lauryn Hill who has been in the country for the 7th Pan-African Dance and Music Festival (FESPAD) said that she has been greatly amazed by the country’s progress and the rich culture.

Speaking to the press shortly before departing, Ms Hill as she is commonly known, said that she would not hesitate coming back for a second time to enjoy the great hospitality the country has to offer and defined her visit as “a major comeback to Africa and Rwanda.”

“I am just excited to be here. I found Rwanda a country rich with culture and beautiful people. I am very excited about the progress I am seeing, it very hopeful,”

“I just came back from the memorial museum and what I saw was touching, powerful, important and extremely necessary,” Hill said in an interview.

The former Fugeez star said that 13 years ago when she visited the continent, she went to Kenya but was advised against travelling to Rwanda for her safety and her pregnancy at the time but added that she had finally fulfilled her dream to come to Rwanda.

“The culture is rich, the people are beautiful, I would like to come back and visit for sometime,” Hill said.

She added that she was impressed by the annual festival which brings together various artistes and that through music the festival can play an enormous role in rebuilding the country and marketing Rwanda as a country.

“I am happy to have been part of this exciting skill and talent showcasing event. It is really exciting,” Hill said.

She further said that it is wrong for people in foreign countries to quickly judge Rwanda before coming down to see what is really happening and what the people are doing to move forward.

The 35 year old songbird is one of the many international artistes the weeklong festival has drawn to the country.

The climax on Saturday is expected feature prominent Nigerian award winning musician D’banj as well as other prominent artistes from the region.

Uche Jombo, Desmond Elliot and Emem Isong Reunite Again

Posted on 28 July 2010 by Shola Syno

Desmond and Nadia

We want to make people cry and laugh – Uche Jombo

Uche Jumbo, Desmond Elliot and Emem Isong were a cast in the Royal Arts Academy Productions, Guilty Pleasure and Nollywood Hustlers starring other notable stars such as Ramsey Nouah, Majid Micheal, Nse Ikpe Etim, Uche Jombo, Susan Peters, Charles Inojie, Monalisa Chinda
and many others.

They are reuniting for new movies set for premiere in August. The movies titled ‘Holding Hope’ and ‘Bursting Out’ would have the trio once again – Emem Isong, Desmond Elliot and Uche Jombo. The premiere would be showed to a selected crowd amidst pomp and pageantry like it was done for the former two movies.

Holding Hope is the story of Mrs. Badmus and her wayward son. It is the
story which springs complexity out of simple plot. For Sidney to inherit his
mother’s wealth who is dying of cancer there is a hurdle he must cross and
that hurdle isn’t an easy one. The story was written by  Uche Jombo, Emem
Isong, and Uduak Emem Oguwamalam. With impressive cast such as Uche Jombo,
Desmond Elliot, Nadia Buhari, Biola Williams, Ngozi Nwosu, Rukky Sanda and
many others one can only imagine what to expect.

Uche Jumbo and Biola Wills

Bursting Out is the story of a lady ripe for marriage and family wants her
to get married to the many suitable suitors but she delays, as time goes on
she decides to close her eyes and jump, a decision of faith that comes with
consequences. Star actress, Genevieve Nnaji and Majid Michael reunites in
the movie that has directorial hands of Desmond Elliot and Daniel Adenimokan
to create electrifying masterpiece. Emem Isong is the producer of the flick.

Speaking on the movie, Uche said they want to make people cry, laugh and
perhaps pause and think at the same time. ‘It’s a movie that we intend and
want people to see in the cinema, and be moved by it, cry about it, and at
the same time, laugh.  Really, life is too short, as there are things you

Nse, Omoni Oboli and Genny.

can change in life, but there are also things you cannot change”.

‘Holding Hope’ and ‘Bursting Out’ will be premiered on Sunday, August 8 at
Silverbird Galleria, Lagos before doing rounds at ‘community cinema houses’
across the country.

Ambrose Alli University Lecturer and Student Make A Sex Tape [WATCH VIDEO].

Posted on 26 July 2010 by QMarkMag

A married lecturer with adult children in the Ambrose Alli University ‘forced’ a female student of his, Judith Okosun into having sex, the act was filmed and the videotape was flashed everywhere on the internet .

Every faculty, student and family share a common priority in an educational center like the Ambrose Alli University, and that priority is leaning. The Ambrose Alli University will not be the first institution of higher learning in the world to be faced with incidents of corrupt sexual behaviors between unprincipled students and dodgy lecturers or professors.

What is likely to be the first across the globe, is that on July 23rd, 2010, there was dramatic moments of a student, one Judith Okosun, in a chaotic encounter in the latter’s tiny room.

There is a human side to this tragedy, which is the possible shocking response that could occur in persons directly and indirectly involved in this all time and highly published live video.

At the time of his writing, one wonders what the said lecturer and student, their respective families, the administrators, faculty and the student body of the university could be going through emotionally and morally.

There is a feeling of dishonor, indecency and shame that could be robbing on those affected by this hurting incident.

In what manner could the lecturer be thinking at this time even if he is being viewed as dishonorable, what could be streaming through the mind of the student even if she is being described as vicious?

At on point in the video, in what seems to be expressions in the Ishan vernacular, an Edo State dialect of this writer, a female voice, possibly that of a female on-looker or Ms. Okosun could be heard admonishing the highly distressed and near-naked engineering university lecturer; “Oya gbe’, tell me yes ma, Oya gbe (meaning shame on you, tell me yes madam). At which time the visiting but physically shaking, distraught and fenced in lecturer, replied through a nervous laughter, “Yes Ma”.

In the moment to moment recording were traumatic mentions of his wife, and daughter by the streaming and noisy voices of on- looking students. The identified student, Ms. Okosun, could be noticed periodically showing fluctuating display of facial pain and anger, in between phone calls.

At the point of this ugliness, what about their families out there in their respective homes, what could they be thinking is this a real or a fake episode?

For the lecturer’s wife, adult children and other family members, this apparent devastating event could form into an emotional storm and an overbearing event.

There could be feelings of traumatic horror equally manifesting in the affected student’s family. Even the co-female residents of Ms. Okosun, as well as the male students operating the video could be heard periodically mounting off screams of frustration and fury.

And there is no doubt that the families of the video operators could be feeling a sense of traumatic worry over the whole explosion.

How does any one make the families and the faculty, the males faculty mostly, understand the institutional tragedies flowing from this experience.

In the live footage, is a middle aged husband, father and lecturer with a full and open display of his penis per the order of both the female and male students.

So clear, from the entire image is a display of alarm, shame and helplessness beaming across the nation, and globe into various homes, offices, markets, dormitories and other settings.

Under these situations, the need for clear and cool heads through some form of clinical help becomes paramount.

The Nigerian culture historically has little attraction to helpful outlet like professional counseling and therapy, and instead many Nigerians rely much more on religious, tribal and family support or remain indifferent to painful related experiences. Certainly these outlets are part of the African reality.

However, the current institutional traumatic grief stands out markedly, as it is first of its kind, therefore calls for a much more different understanding, assessment and emotional support.

The Psychology department of the University with the help of the two or three Clinical Psychology faculty should set up a Crisis Drop- in- Center in safe like settings. It should be open to any one related or involved with the university. In matters like this one there are natural responses of all types which could include guilt, exhaustion, apprehension, bewilderment or catastrophe.

The overall set up for help should revolve around Institutional Tragedy Assistance. The lecturer in question should be encouraged to receive urgent individual counseling to deal with possible feelings of acute stress, hopelessness, insecurity, gloom and loss.
On a separate basis his wife and children could be scheduled for a critical or an immediate family therapy, and in future another line of therapy with possible inclusion of the dishonored father and husband should be offered.

The student in question, given her reported past frustrations and dealings with this lecturer, and her current feelings of mixed, disgusted emotions and all of her overwhelmed undertakings ,she could gain from a cooling out related crisis intervention.

Her own family could also gain from some sort of supportive counseling. The faculty, administrators and other university staff should be encouraged to come in for counseling focusing on ‘this could have being me’ session.

Also, other students like Ms. Okosun’s co-residents, the students’ video makers and other on-lookers to the graphic scene, could gain from a safe environment like the drop in center to vent their anger and worry over their aberrant acts, the videoing of the episode especially.

And for those whose assessment and intervention showed to be in need of further help, a psychiatrist could become involved for medication evaluation and possible psychotropic medication maintenance.

There is the need for the Vice-Chancellor Sam Uniamikogbo and his administration to realize that crisis intervention is of high importance as it could help the affected players and individuals, the lecturer and the student especially. Immediate therapeutic assistance could help them learn better coping skills, develop good problem solving behaviors, and avoid negative ways of coping such as engaging in self destructive acts like self injury, drug or substance abuse as well as help return the individual to their previous level of functioning.

The commission of inquiry and the probing panel of this incident by the State of Edo under the administration of Governor Adam Oshiomhole, and through an investigatory team at the university are certainly required.

United Arab Emirate Police: Ibori Faces UK Extradition Soon

Posted on 26 July 2010 by QMarkMag

Ibori

Former Nigerian state governor James Ibori, wanted by the UK on charges of money laundering and who was arrested in May by Interpol police officers in Dubai, will soon be extradited to London, confirmed a Dubai Police source.

James Onanefe Ibori served as the governor of the oil-rich Delta State from 1999 to 2007. Ibori, who is believed to have entered the UAE a couple of times on visit visas, was planning to start a business here. He was arrested just a couple of months after he entered the country.

Interpol warrant

Acting upon a red corner arrest warrant issued through Interpol, Dubai Police investigators arrested Ibori at a five star hotel in Palm Jumeirah. He was initially bailed and later he was detained, said the source.Based on a media report, Nigeria’s anti-corruption police tried to arrest Ibori to question him over allegations that $290 million (Dh1064 million) was looted from Delta state government coffers while he was governor.

However, hundreds of Ibori’s supporters prevented police from arresting him and he is believed to be a powerful presence among Nigerians.Faridi Waziri, chairwoman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was quoted by media reports as saying that Ibori was detained after an arrest warrant was issued by Interpol.

“The EFCC charged Ibori in 2007 with looting more than $85 million during his eight-year tenure as governor of Delta, one of the three main oil-producing states in the southern Niger Delta region, but a court dismissed the charges,

” Waziri said.Ibori is accused of using state funds to purchase several companies under his name. Commission investigators said Ibori would later launder that money in the UK, in bank accounts he controlled — a matter which he continuously denied even while arrested in Dubai.

Several of Ibori’s associates are facing money laundering charges in Britain, where a court froze $35 million worth of his assets in August 2007 on suspicion they were the proceeds of corruption.Ibori was detained by Dubai Police on the sole request by the Metropolitan Police Service, the police source said.

When extradited Ibori would become the second person to be sent to Britain for trial under a 2008 treaty.

British trial

According to various media reports, his wife, sister and personal assistant were all the subjects of a money-laundering trial in London that began in 2007.

Anti-corruption officials in Nigeria said they are working with the Metropolitan Police in London to ensure Ibori is extradited there.

South African President Is A Unique Womanizer: A Rundown OF His Sex Scandals.

Posted on 25 July 2010 by Sonde Jimmy

Jacob Zuma.

Its no wonder to hear that the South African president womanise, after all, most political leaders womanise with sex scandals here and these, while some still manage to keep it private. But in the case of president Zuma, he has put others in the shade. His own case makes sex scandal morally upright.

The 68 year old president is a unique womaniser. He has got skills as a womaniser to be a world-beater. I think he should be the last president to engage in such acts if it were to be a must for all presidents considering the high rate of HIV infection in South Africa. And i ask, is this the best way president Zuma can help solve the problem of high rate of HIV infection in the country?. This question brings to mind the statement he made while emphasizing on the need to create more hotels and restaurants to get more young men and women dating. Is Zuma making it open that he’s a flirt?

Zuma’s family crisis has been zeroed in on his terrible sex life. He has been facing sex scandals even before he was sworn in as SA president. His failure to using condom in extra-marital relationship has resulted into family crisis. Lets give you a quick run-down of president Zuma and wife’s sex scandals story.

In 2005, Zuma who was accused of raping an HIV positive woman claimed that he had protected himself from getting infected when he took his bath after having sex with the woman, and had not used a condom. Sounds funny!. In 2009, Zuma married two more wives (Ntuli and Madiba) and in early 2010, he impregnated another woman, his friend’s daughter named Sonono Khoza. The highly-sexed president has been married five times, but currently has three wives and two fiancées ‘Gloria Ngema’ and ‘Princess Sebentile of Swaziland’. Zuma might still have some fiancées out there which he is not ready to disclose (but will later do as he impregnate them).

The 68 year old president has more than 21 children and all his wives and fiancées are in their thirties. Zuma was once accused of raping his friend’s daughter. Recently, Zuma’s second wife, Ntuli popularly known as Mantuli was accused of been impregnated by her ex-private bodyguard who had committed suicide after the scandal was revealed.

Zuma is really disturbed by the incident that he had to call for a serious family meeting. Zuma’s family are not taking it likely with Mantuli as different letters have been submitted to the media accusing Mantuli of carrying her late bodyguard’s baby. Mantuli who is still battling with a married actor who had claimed to have had a child with Mantuli is not living with the president as she lives in durban. Its now a case of “like husband(zuma), like wife(mantuli)”.

South Africa is known for her high number of HIV victims as the country produces more than 300,000 victims of HIV every year. Could one say President Zuma’s case explains why S.A. produces such a high number. Zuma’s sex life is one of a kind. As Kerry Cullinan will say “HIV prevention is getting people to change their sexual habits”. But Zuma, the influential and notable figure who is capable of effecting the change is not by any means working towards it. He is rather selling himself short among young women. You should wonder if Zuma has ever been sex-starved by his wives, which might be an excuse for his extra-marital relationship but Then if that is assumed, then what of his failure to using condom during sex.

Overall, President Zuma needs caution and he needs to make use of his discretion. Hopefully, the family crisis resulting from the untimely scandal knock sense into president Zuma, make him regain consciousness and get out of the wood.
