FELA!, the most critically acclaimed new musical of the season has received 11 Tony Nominations including Best Musical. FELA! is the biography of Nigerian and Afrobeat superstar Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

The electrifying and touching new Broadway musical, FELA!, tells the true story of Fela Kuti whose soulful and stirring Afrobeat rhythms ignited a generation.

FELA! is a triumphant tale of courage, passion and love featuring Fela Kuti’s captivating music and the visionary direction and choreography of Tony-Award winner Bill T. Jones.

The telecast of the Tony Awards® events is on June 13, 2010. Tony Awards, named after Antoinette Perry whose nickname was Tony — actually Toni — was started in 1947 to  celebrate excellence in the theatre.
